Why is there so much chatter about Sitecore SaaS?
SaaS will be the most radical change to Sitecore since version 6 was released over a decade ago. The SaaS release will be an entirely new platform, hosted and maintained in the cloud by Sitecore, and fully integrated with Content Hub. It will fundamentally alter the way you interact with Sitecore as a marketer or a developer while retaining all the powerful martech features you rely on.
Will this affect me? When?
Probably not, at least for a while. The first release is not expected until the middle of next year, and Sitecore has been careful to manage expectations of it. If you are running a small business or are new to Sitecore then SaaS might be a suitable choice. Mature Sitecore customers aren't going to get all the features they need for a few more releases, likely into 2021. Sitecore has been very clear about their intention to support the existing solution for the foreseeable future, so you can make the transition when you are ready.
Will there be a migration path for my current site?
The details we have heard about the new platform's architecture suggest that SaaS will come with a substantial shift in the tools, technologies, and techniques required to customize and extend Sitecore. We don't know yet if there will be an official migration path to the SaaS platform, but our experience tells us that there will be a significant amount of work to move between platforms. We recommend adding SaaS to your road map concurrent with a refresh cycle or a round of heavy enhancements.
Will I still need a partner under SaaS?
If you are currently managing your own Sitecore deployment without a partner then you will probably be able to continue doing so once you move to SaaS, although your staff may require some retraining. If not, rest assured that Paragon will be ready to guide you on the journey, from advice to strategy, migration, development, or training.
